Garth Appelt

Garth Appelt is a Managing Director, Head of Foreign Exchange at Mizuho Americas. Prior to Mizuho, Garth was a Senior Managing Director at UBS where he was the Global Head of Emerging Markets, Global Head of G10 Foreign Exchange Spot FX, and Global Head of Precious Metals Trading. At UBS, Garth was a member of the FRC Americas Executive Committee and FRC Global Management Committee. Garth also served as a board member for the Emerging Markets Traders Association (EMTA). Prior to joining UBS, Appelt was a Portfolio Manager at Moore Capital Management specializing in G10 and Emerging Market directional and relative value strategies in foreign exchange, interest rates, credit and equities. Over a 25-year career, Appelt has also held positions at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and JP Morgan in New York, Paris and London.

Global head of market structure and innovation for financial markets

ING Bank

Stéphane Malrait is Managing Director and Global Head of market structure and innovation for Financial Markets at ING Bank. He is working with advocacy groups, policy makers and regulators to follow market structure and industry challenges impacting the financial market industry. He is also leading innovation activities in the capital market space within ING and developing external partnership with Fintech companies. He actively contributes in industry working groups to represent ING Bank.

Stéphane joined ING in 2015 to lead the bank e-commerce initiatives across all financial market products and to develop the financial market group’s cross-asset ecommerce strategy. Before joining ING, he spent eight years at Société Générale, where he was Global Head of FIC eCommerce, creating an eCommerce business covering credit, rates, money market, emerging market and FX. Prior to this, Stéphane worked at JPMorgan Chase for ten years, serving in different roles in Global FX E-Commerce Business Management and cross-asset eCommerce technology and was based in London and New York.

Stéphane has a strong background in financial markets and understands the need for continued technological development to drive positive change in trading and market structure workflows. He is leading ING Financial Market innovation strategy and working on the implementation of financial regulations that will impact the clients trading activity and transform how trading floor operates.

Stéphane is also an advisor or board member for several Fintech initiatives and trading associations in Fixed income and FX. Since 2005 he has been active with the ACI Financial Market Association - an international non-profit organisation that represents the interests of market professionals in foreign exchange and money markets. He chaired the ACI FX committee from 2010 for 10 years and joined ACI FMA board in 2020 and became chairman of the board in June 2021. He is also an active member of the ECB FX contact group and a board member of ICMA since May 2023.

Russell is a former managing director who was responsible for the strategic oversight and implementation of Great Lake Advisors' operations, performance, risk, and information technology systems. He joined Rothschild & Co Asset Management US in 2016 and the industry in 2002. Previously, Russell worked at Times Square Capital Management overseeing operations and performance, and, before that, at EMS Capital, L.P., Hawkstone Capital, Bear Stearns Asset Management, Elliot Management and Pricewaterhouse Coopers where he audited clients in the asset management industry. Russell has a BS in Accounting, Finance, and Operations Management from the University of Delaware and an MBA from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College.

Sudipto De

Sudipto is the head of investment risk for Principal Asset Management focusing across all asset classes. Sudipto joined Principal in April 2022. Prior to this, he was the Deputy Head of Investment Risk at Lord, Abbett & Co. LLC, an independent, privately held investment management company, where he spent six years developing and executing the investment risk management program across all asset classes. 

Before Lord Abbett, Sudipto spent seven years at Goldman Sachs as a fixed income quantitative strategist focusing on asset backed securities, commercial and residential mortgage-backed securities and real estate. Sudipto has a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL, USA and is also a CFA charter holder.

Julia has led transformational initiatives in many financial services companies such as Voya Financial, Deutsche Bank Citi, FINRA, Freddie Mac, and others. 

Julia is a much sought-after speaker and mentor in the industry, and she has received recognition across the industry for her significant contributions. She has been named to engatica 2023 list of World’s Top 200 Business and Technology Innovators; received 2022 WLDA Changemaker in AI award; has been named to CDO Magazine’s List of Global Data Power Women three years in the row; named Top 150 Business Transformation Leader by Constellation Research in 2019; and recognized as the Best Data Management Practitioner by A-Team Data Management Insight in 2017.

She holds a Master of Arts in Economics from New York University.
